March 2015 Events in NC Triad

Here in the Piedmont Triad, we know how to have a great time. As Spring arrives and nature begins to welcome fresh buds and beautiful color palettes, consider taking in a few of these unique and fun upcoming events! Remember, a house is more than sticks and bricks, it’s a place you can call home in the heart of a vibrant community.

‘Toons for Tots

  • Monday, March 16, 9-10am
  • Jerry Long YMCA
  • 1150 South Peacehaven Road; Clemmons, NC

Children who love cartoons will be treated to an hour of fun vignettes and a special visit from Lenny the Lifeguard, the Piedmont Triad’s very own cartoon character, a leaping frog that teaches kids about water safety. This special event is part of Creek Week, so no need to join the YMCA to attend, just show up ready to have fun and learn!

Bach’s Lunch

  • Daily between March 16-20, 2015
  • Starmount Presbyterian Church
  • 3501 W Market St, Greensboro, NC 27403

Starmount Presbyterian Church presents daily classical music concerts, complete with light lunch in the Fellowship Hall. Join us for amazing renditions of some of your favorite classical tunes and get to know others in the community who appreciate the mastery.

Nature Photo Contest

  • March 18, 6-9pm
  • Kathleeen Clay Edwards Library
  • 1420 Price Park Road; Greensboro, NC 27410

Students from K-12 are encouraged to submit a 4×6 photo of nature anywhere in Guilford County. Students must take the picture themselves and include a 3×5 index card with their entry providing: name, address, phone, school & grade, sentence describing the photo, title of photo, and location where the photo was taken. All entries should be hand delivered to Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch Library. For further questions or details, contact Melanie Buckingham at 336-373-2923.

Corn Hole Tournament

  • March 21, 1-3pm
  • Abington Swim Club
  • 7005 Avenbury Circle; Kernersville, NC 27284

The public is welcome at this fun corn hole event. Pre-register for $10 individual or $20 per team. Day-of registration is $15 for individuals and $25 for teams. Please bring your own refreshments and come ready to enjoy a fun time testing your skill at this trend-setting game.

2nd Annual Donkey Basketball

  • March 21, 7pm
  • Special Olympics of NC
  • Old Walkertown Middle School Gym

In what can only be described as hilarious, join the Kernersville police and fire departments as they team up for this fundraiser for the Special Olympics. Watch as officers and fire fighters ride donkeys while playing basketball. For more information, call Detective Sandy McGee at 336-992-5442.

An Afternoon of Poetry and Tea

  • March 29, 3-5pm
  • Greensboro Cultural Arts Center
  • 200 N. Davie Street; Greensboro, NC 27401

Join the Writers Group of the Triad as they host 2015 NC Poet Laureate, Shelby Stephenson while he engages the audience with his poetry and process. Gourmet teas by Teahuggers will be provided with light refreshments. For more information, call Lois Losyk at 336-288-8901.
